Hon. Alhaj M.H.A. Haleem MP.
Minister of Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Affairs,
D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha,
Colombo-10.

Dear Hon. Minister,

Postage Stamp for the late Hon. A.R. Munsoor

I am addressing this communication to you with a view to requesting the issue of a Commemorative Stamp in memory of the late Hon. A.R. Munsoor.

As you are aware the late Hon.Munsoor, who was elected to Parliament by the people of Kalmunai dedicated his entire life towards national unity, peace, and progress.  He was a great protagonist of reconciliation and proved himself as a bridge-builder of unity among all sections of the Sri Lankan community, particularly, his role in working towards unity between the Muslims and Tamils of the East is worthy of high recognition.

He is the architect of the modern Kalmunai Town, which boasts of many modern buildings – Court House, Library, Kachcheri, bus stand, police station, hospital etc, apart from schools and roadways.  He was a senior lawyer and held many important Ministerial portfolios during his time as a Parliamentarian.  He hails from a very distinguished family in the East and was a son–in-law of the late Gate Mudliyar M.S. Kariapper, himself an MP., Minister, and a freedom fighter under the stewardship of the Rt.Hon. D.S. Senanayake, First Prime Minister of Ceylon.

I am sure there will be accepted from all quarters if you would direct the Philatelic Bureau to issue a Commemorative Stamp in recognition of the great services rendered by Hon. Munsoor for over fifty years in public life for his people, and the country at large.

Thanking you.
Yours sincerely,

Alhaj A.H.M. Azwer
Former MP & Minister
General Secretary
Sri Lanka Muslim Progressive Front
